FROGS

SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS for FROGS
  • Frogs have very powerful and long back legs and webbed feet that help them jump great distances, as well as, swim. Frogs even use their legs to dig, or burrow, underground for hibernating.
  •  Frogs have very good eyesight. They bulge out the sides of their heads in order for the frog to see in nearly all directions to help them find food or run away from a predator.
  • Frogs also have amazing sense of hearing
  • Smooth and slimy skin
    • BOY OR GURL???  You tell the difference between a male and female frog by the size of their eardrum which is behind their eyes. If the eardrum is smaller than the eye, the frog is a gurl and if its aorund the same size of the eye then its a dude
HOW AND WHAT DO THEY EAT?!?!
THE FIRST QUESTION...WHAT!!??
Many species of frogs use their long tongues to catch insects. But its diet during its larval stages and adult life has its differences. The larval tadpole is an herbivore while the adult frog is a carnivore eating insects. Most tadpoles are herbivores and feed on plants and algae. Some species are omnivores and eat both algea, etc. and even other tadpoles. Tadpoles eat a wide variety of food. During the early developmental stage, tadpoles feed on its own yolk sacks, in order to grow and develop. One day after hatching, the tadpole starts to absorb oxygen through its skin and eats the remainder of yolk in its intestine. Within 2-3 days, it opens its mouth and its external gills start working. After that it becomes vegetarian. The major food for tadpoles includes plants, algae and other microscopic things in the water. But if you have or want them as a pet they also feed on fish food, lettuce, egg yolk and baby cereal!:D

But when the back legs of tadpoles emerge, they completely become carnivores within a short period of time. If there are no sufficient insects, larvae, microbes or other small animals in the water, then they eat each other or their brother and sisters..how sad.:(

THE NEXT QUESTION..HOW!?!?!
Frogs use their tongues which are very specialized because it’s tip is folded backward toward the throat and is very sticky. Because of this, the frog is able to flick out it’s long tongue rapidly to grasp and prey. But frogs that do not have tongues use their fingers to put food into their mouths.

A BIT MORE SPECIFIC ON REPRODUCTION AND MATING
During mating season, for frogs and toads they make croaking sounds or also called as their mating calls. Males croak to be able to find its mate. And when the female comes, and lays her eggs, the male climbs behind her and adds his sperm to the water to allow fertilization to begin.

BUT DID YOU KNOW?!
Two frog species have tails! The coastal tailed frog and the mountain tailed frog. Both have tails that match the color of their bodies. These tails are reproductive organs. Because of this, tailed frogs are the only type of frog in which a male can fertilize eggs while they're still inside a female's body.

HOW TO CROAK

Frogs and toads use croaking to be able to find their mate. To make the sound, air is pushed into the mouth. The skin on the bottom or sides of the mouth swells up like a balloon. The sound starts in the voice box and bounces back and forth off the stretched skin. This makes the sound louder.

STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT OF A FROG
To understand and be more specific with the development of a frog from its time in the egg to its life as a tadpole, here are some videos and a diagram to know how metamorphosis happens.
